When it comes to day-to-day tables, many of us (myself included) default to safe and boring choices. But why limit ourselves? This edit came about because I was on a mission to incorporate more interesting pieces into my everyday tableware.
It’s always made me a little sad that formal tableware has so much character and beauty yet isn’t a big part of daily lives. Yes, I know, people say, use the good stuff all the time — but the reality is, there’s a reason we don’t. Fine china, linen, and glassware can be very fragile and hard to clean, and honestly, it’s more special if it’s reserved for holidays.
I don’t think we have to make a choice between personality and practicality. I want a pretty plate that makes toast feel like an occasion but that I can put in the dishwasher and won’t dissolve into a puddle of tears if it breaks when my 16-month old gets a hold of it.
